ARCA Press Release

Appliance Recycling Centers of America (ARCA) Awarded Contract by Great River Energy
December 3, 2009
Minneapolis, MN

Appliance Recycling Centers of America, Inc. (NASDAQ: ARCI) today announced that it has been awarded a contract by Great River Energy to provide refrigerator and freezer recycling services for its member cooperatives’ residential electric customers in Minnesota. The program is scheduled to begin on April 1, 2010 and run through September 30, 2010.

Through this program, participating electric cooperative consumers who turn in operating but energy inefficient refrigerators and freezers will be eligible for a $35.00 incentive check. Customers may turn in two units per account per year and will receive a $35.00 incentive for each unit. The incentive, which will be paid by Great River Energy and its member cooperatives, is designed to offset the costs normally incurred when disposing of an old refrigerator or freezer, often in favor of a new, more energy efficient model.

Qualifying refrigerators and freezers must be operational (cooling) at the time of pickup and have rated capacities between 10 and 27 cubic feet. Great River Energy’s member cooperatives will distribute additional program information to cooperative consumers in early 2010.

Edward R. (Jack) Cameron, President and Chief Executive Officer, said: “We are extremely pleased to have the opportunity to provide turnkey appliance recycling services for this energy efficiency program sponsored by Great River Energy in our home state of Minnesota. The program will be ARCA’s sixth utility-sponsored energy efficiency program in Minnesota. By capitalizing on ARCA’s successful Great American Refrigerator Roundup® campaign, Great River Energy and its member cooperatives will reduce residential electricity demand, help lower their customers’ energy bills and provide public environmental benefits.”
