ARCA’s experience in energy monitoring of old appliances spans two decades and encompasses a variety of approaches in conjunction with major players in the field of impact evaluation studies.

Procedures include:

• Working with the utility client and EM&V contractor to determine measurement parameters
• Gathering information on individual units by collecting key appliance data—e.g., model, age, size, defrost type—from the customer during program enrollment
• Metering at a residential, recycling center or laboratory site under controlled conditions to determine kWh usage
• Supporting utility efforts to analyze the impact of the program in terms of energy savings and cost effectiveness
